Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads MA'ers

Postby Maximum404 » 31 May 2011 08:21

Anyone located in this area? It looks like the closest MA dealer with a 125 to me is about a 6 hour drive. I am hoping to sit on one of these before I order from Moto-Scoot. Anyone up to donating a few minutes of their time in the next couple of months? For you DC'ers, I'll be there 4th of July weekend if ya'll are feeling generous. Thanks!

So I need some help. I just found a killer Honda 230M from a friend of mine for the same price as a MA 125. Only 1500 miles. I am looking for something to bum around a city with and MAYBE make short 1hr trips to a nearby city (very rare). Any thoughts? Try to be unbiased!

Either would make good city goers, one will get you there quicker...the other will get you there in style. CRF has a decent aftermarket presence...the Madass has ridiculously numerous aftermarket options because of the engine mount pattern. So if you like to tinker there's no contest here.

The crf230 will be a much more capable hooligan/street bike but there's no denying the aesthetic allure of the of the Madass.
Madass 2.0 a work in progress.

True, I really like the Madass, but I have to be realistic as to the time I can spend tinkering during Med school. I am also now looking at a 2010 Kawi 250SF even though I would drop $3800 to get on one. We'll see. I think it just depends on what I can sit on around the time I am buying. I'll have to have the dealership do maintenance during the school year (boo).

Ok, so now I am really torn between four bikes:
- Madass 125
- Kawi 250SF
- Yamaha WR250X
- Honda CRF230M

If I buy the MA new, I can get them all at about the same price if the other three are used ($3k +/-$500). I'll be doing mostly short city jaunts as I stated earlier. Mostly under 5miles one way. I am having slight doubts of reliability of the MA, but I can't seem to get that bike out of my head since I saw it. I am just fishing for thoughts and such that I may have missed in my reasoning. This will take me to school and back so if I can have a place to safely hook up my helmet that is a plus as I don't want to carry it around (lockable crate is fine by me). So, anyone?

Bite my tongue, but if i was standing, with cash in hand at this moment, looking at those bikes, I would get the WR250X. Now that's not saying I don't love my MA because I do, i really do. But I've got a ... thing for enduros (dual sport) and you can't get much better than the Yamaha there, closely followed by the Kawai.

I'm just saying.

Yeah, that seems to be my top choice as well, but the seat height is keeping me away so far. I know I can drop it about 2" with about $150 which may be enough. I was really hoping to stay under 32" with my 30" inseam...
